 Each Saturday, Park historians offer scheduled guided tours of both Tudor Hall Plantation and the Breakthrough Battlefield. Each guided tour provides special insights into the themes of life in the antebellum South and the conduct and context of the April 2, 1865 Breakthrough.  Tudor Hall Tour: 11:00 a.m. Entitled, "Lay of the Land," this walk focuses on the people who lived at Tudor Hall and other Southern plantations in the years just before the Civil War. Visitors go to the Field Quarter, slave kitchen, and "Big House," to learn about the lifestyles and interactions of the extended plantation "family." The tour covers about 1/4 mile of trails.  Battlefield Tour: 3:15 p.m.This walk explores the climactic Breakthrough of April 2, 1865 that occurred on the land preserved in Pamplin Historical Park. Your guide will share stories and insights from the actual battle participants and make the saga of this important battle come to life on the very ground where it happened. The walk takes about 45 minutes and covers .4 miles of easy trail. A reminder: the weather can often be warm and humid in southern Virginia. Visitors are encouraged to use sunscreen and drink plenty of fluids when taking outdoor walking tours.
