board roomThe Pamplin Board Room is a 1,120-sq. ft. interactive exhibit that focuses on the lives of two of America’s most successful businessmen, Robert B. Pamplin, Sr., and Dr. Robert B. Pamplin, Jr. The exhibit features a touch-screen kiosk, 13 wall panels adorned with Presidential letters, photographs, books, awards and news and magazine articles, as well as family albums and scrap books that provide visitors with a better understanding of the Pamplins' dedication to family, history and education.

Robert B. Pamplin Sr. was born in 1911 and raised on a small family farm in Dinwiddie County, Va., three miles from his ancestors' farm at what is now Pamplin Historical Park. After graduating from Virginia Tech, he attended graduate school at Northwestern University. He moved to Georgia one year later and went to work at the Georgia Hardwood Lumber Co., a wholesaler of hardwood lumber that opened in 1927. Mr. Pamplin helped grow this company into the Fortune 500 multinational corporation known as the Georgia-Pacific Corporation.

During his 42 years with Georgia-Pacific, Mr. Pamplin served in a number of leadership roles, including president, CEO and Chairman of the Board. After retiring from Georgia-Pacific, Mr. Pamplin and his son built the R.B. Pamplin Corporation into one of America’s largest privately held companies.
